Well in Lebanon the plane trip was annoying. It has been a while since I flown Kuwait Airways and remembered why after this. Luckily I am returning via MEA so will avoid this mess.

Strange thing about this trip I am not brining my MP3 player. I was contimplating it when I was packing and decided against it. Not sure what to put on it and really didn’t think I will be listening to it at all.

Books:

  • Jennifer Government: Pretty cool book, here reminds me of Snow Crash but has this tinge to it that I am enjoying.
  • Counter-BlastI got this at the last second McLauhan is a visionary in terms of ways of communication where it is headed. I been thinking a lot of the future of communication and interaction lately ao wanted to catch up on his writings to get a better perspective of it all.
  • Vintage Maurakami I got this book ages ago but just haven’t had time to start reading it, buy or will start the first page and just put it down. I started reading one of the stories on the plane and really dove deep in his writings. Their is some rich imagery and feelings. This will be a real joy in reading.

The only electronic thing I am carrying with me is my phone and my bluetooth keyboard to write with. I rarely use it but its good to have when I need it. I much rather write in my trusty yellow notepad that I always carry with me. Like a camera. I decided to take my Minolta on this trip easy simple camer and a nice lens. The only problem is that I dont have any film! I went to the airport duty free and they dont keep any more regular film! It is a travesty! I hope to pick some up from the hotel bookstore thing tomorrow morning.

I really want to take pictures of Lebanon. It look so scenic when we were landing that I want to see more of it. Tomorrow we are going to the mountains so that will be exciting and want to get some pictures there, but really want to get a feel for the city and the mix of old and new.

Just got done with some great sking. It really feels great to be back on the slopes again. We got an instructor to guide us for the mountains and well he been teaching us some great stuff. I haven’t have an someone to teach me to ski in a while, symptoms and haven’t skied in over a year so it was very helpful. It was all about flow and well letting your skis take over and move you, approved instead of you forcing to move them. It took a while for me to get mind wrapped around the idea of just letting go.
It took the whole day but by the end I had it down. I was carving down the mountain in full speed with just slight tilt of the knee to the left and right for movement. It felt great just to speed down and move. I just love that feeling. That flow of the whole body moving in a rythem. No thought, just body and flow it is a wonderful feeling just to relax for it and feel that heat in your body and the cold wind on your face.
Tonight to Beirut and burn up downtown. Aiming for that Dunkin Donuts experience I keep hearing about

Had a great night out in Beirut, buy more about just no time to post about it. So the rumors of my return are false. I got picked up by my friend and headed down to the CV for some dinner and a good time. I really enjoy driving around the city and even walking in it just the mix of shapes and colors in the buildings and the feeling of life you get from them really wonderful. This feeling also exists in the inside of these buildings.
We headed to Mono [sp?] street and found some hole in the wall pub an djust hanged out for a while. It is really great to have one street just dedicated to the pubs and such, ailment makes it easier to find friends and other places to go when one is full or just not the right feeling. While at the pub some old friends came and also met some new ones. It was one fun time trading stories and singing a long to the music and recounting history. Also I got to experience the famous Lebanese dancing on the bar ritual. The song was Time goes by – Madonna and since I am sucker for peer pressure I hopped on their with my friend and just went at it. I also would like to take this time to thank all the strippers I’ve seen in action for teaching me how to pole dance. I really couldn’t have done it without them.
After that we decided it was time to go dancing! So we headed out ot BO18, unhealthy which is spectacular. I also always heard of this place and their roof and to get to see it and with the roof open was really great. We had a great time there just dancing the rest of the night away. I was in a different state, just with my circle of new and old friends and that was my world. The rest of the club really didn’t exist We were just having such a good time.
I dont remember when I got back home since I didn’t have to drive up that mountain road, I was just out of it. I was so tired and slept all the way up and sleep walked to my hotel room. I was just gone. All I recall is that as soon as I hit the bed my brother started this broken record telling me to wake up. Out of spite I stayed in bed. I really needed to go to the bathroom but didn’t move out of the bed. If it is war he wanted, war he got.
That was a quiet day, saw friends up in the slopes and had a really good grease bomb of a burger.
Today in Beirut and wandered around the Solidare, really need to get lost here. I love getting lost in a city and just taking pictures and observing the people and how they integrate with the architecture. You get such a wonderufl feel for the place that way. You understand it better. The reaon for the people’s actions and if that is based on the souroundings, or that that souroundings affect the people.
One cool thing for Lebanon history is I saw the “Prophet and Gibran” play.
More exploring tonight and tomorrow. Friend recommended this place called Basement and that seems to be chill to hang out and take it easy.

Looks like a dead body.

Just saw a car crash, price well didn’t see how it happened, sildenafil but the aftermath I was there for. Was just on my way home from diwaniya when I just hear sounds and see this car flipped over on the side and my instant reaction was stop and run to the accidents. I been in a flipped car before so I know the reactions of the people and just the confusion of it

Guess I have completed the cycle. I have caused one, order been in one, and now been an observer in one.

I guess thats what I am feeling right now. That whole experience of it in all parts. I know how the person who hit that car felt, I been the person in receiving that blow and now helping out and being outside of it.

At the end of the day it just makes me tired and hungry.

Not Close Enough

Around midnight last night internet in Kuwait went down. Seems there was a fire at the exchange that took it out. GPRS via Mtc working now.

Someone asked me last week “How happy are you from 1-10” and I thought for a bit cause if he said 10-0 it would be easier but I replied “A 7 or 8”, cure and he was surprised by that high number compared to other people he asked and wondered why. The first thing that came to my mind was “Seahawks going to Superbowl”, he then said “oh it sports and didn’t want to hear about it, and then some food came.

The reason I said Seahawks was part of the whole reason for my state of happiness, I had something to look forward to. There is a state of happiness now, but that is really hard to achieve due to it’s briefness. Yet to me being really happy is having something to wake up to in the morning and well just look forward to.

There was a time that waking up for me was utter and extreme hell. Not from the lack of sleep or my diet, but that I had nothing to wake up for. Waking up consisted of me going “why, and what do I have to do today”, not “what I wanted, but HAD to”. It was very troubling state of mind.

I could take a look at this in the Maslow heirarchy of needs or even in the Erikson’s stages. So I guess I am growing as a person or something like that. Funny thing is both those thoughts end with things that Buddhism works on achieving.

Even tonight I went to the airport to pay the MTC bill and just hanged around there all alone and was so content on being there. Felt so relaxing just roaming around, eating some teriyaki while reading The Economist. It has really been a long time since I have eaten alone and well being totally in my own space within a public setting and being comfy in it.

I guess I reached some sort of sync where my outside and inside are at a balance or something. Guess it is the sync of the Hijra new year and the Chinese one. Guess that has to mean something.

Yesterday when I woke up from my afternoon nap I was craving sex, side effects coffee or pizza. Sex isn’t readily available in this country, and I really didn’t feel like driving for coffee, but luckily pizza delivers.

We been expecting this for a while now, disinfection and even joked that after the death of King Fahad that the finals are now between Sultan Qaboos of Oman and our Sheik Jaber.

Well now it has happened at 4am local time Shiek Jaber has passed away. It is a strange feeling of mourning cause I always known him as “Baba Jaber”, ampoule he has been the ruler since my birth and well you get used to these things.

I remember this school trip back in the 80s and like all bad kids we were in the back of the bus and it was making a U-turn, anemia and this car was behind us and it was Sheik Jaber driving it, totally chill driving his car smiling and waving. We were all excited and jumping around.

Thats what made him so special, he never did that whole pomp and entourage thing, he was a simple man. Even his assassination attempt in 1985 the car he was driving was a Beige Chevrolet Caprice. My Father was right around the corner when that thing happened and he jokes “If I didn’t take pictures of you on Friday I would have had pictures of that”. Also another image of him that comes to mind is his speech to the UN in 1990 that was just so moving both vulnerable and yet strong in asking for help to free your country.

He will be missed, and who ever follows him will have very big shoes to fill in not just the running of a country, but being the father figure of a whole nation.

2.0 06

This is from Google Video and I laugh because it is true.

Well moved to WordPress 2.0 had some issues with plugins, see more about but thats just me not reading directions and well I got clutter up on this blog. I really dont like their update process really a hassle if you have other directories and structures that aren’t part of the blog.

Thinking of getting a new theme and set it up again with some other plugins and features. The one I am using was supposedly temp until I fixed colors and other stuff. I will look at some templates and see what is available, really main thing is to clean up the plugins and do a real update.

Which Stage of the Group are You?

Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone over group dynamics and I mentioned the the group dynamic structure of Forming-storming-norming-performing

  1. Forming: The beginning stage where everyone is an individual and setting their goals and resources needed to achieve it.
  2. Storming: This is where the group starts facing problems and limits are being pushed and tested.
  3. Norming: Here is when the group starts to meld, buy more about and they really start to know their roles and other people in the group.
  4. Performing: It all comes down to this, sale having the team achieve the goals set.

Then there is the 5th stage of Adjourning and Transforming where the group well dies out, the job, goal they were doing just ends and they move on to other things.

After learning this in college and seeing it work and actually work in my group. I always mentally reference this information when I see groups interact trying to figure where they are. Yet, just because you seem people storming doesn’t mean they are in that stage, cause the cycle repeats for situations that arises such as goal or roles changes.

Storming is one of the most difficult stages to really move out of. It is really about well submitting at times. You have to deal with what the group is and give up some of your individual rights and abilities for the better of the group. Some people can’t do that and the group is stuck there.

We were taught methods on how to deal with it and nudge and push the group forward. Basically it involves talking and hearing the other person out. Lots of little notes on that and that crap. Yet sometimes it works.

So where are you in your group development? In your circle of friends, families and even just relationship. Are you stuck in the storming stage? Or achieved performing?

This I think the second night this “work week” that I am home after work. Yesterday I was just tired and wanted to relax at home, decease I tried to leave, stomatology even got dressed to leave and see some people and get food but someone came over so that changed things. It was good stuff but was so tired afterwards didn’t want to go get food, or even make me something and just went to bed.

Today is the same at work I was just tired and felt all icky and had some mad ass road rage on the way home. Just idiots all over the place honking and over reacting over some stupid stuff. It just made me annoyed and want to get home quicker.

It is good to relax and unwind at home for a bit and get some alone time.
