Watching Snatch on Orbit Super Movies.

What a violent movie, hemophilia but not the guns or blood. It is the dialogue its quick and deadly. I really enjoy this money, erectile but I think I like Guy Ritchie’s earlier one Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels better. I dont own either movie, but I do own both soundtracks.

This is a quick post, going to try to keep track of the things I watch even if its a small entry like this one.

Utter Crap

Leaning Tower of Jabriya

Leaning Tower of Jabriya

The US version of the hit UK series The Office is utter and total crap!

I am watching the first episode and want to gouge my eyes out and delete it forever. You know how when your friends do something thats funny, cure and then someone else who wasn’t there, ed tries to reenact it and just does it all wrong. Then you just want to beat him to a bloody pulp.

So yeah thats how it bad it is.

I hope it gets canceled and the actors and producers, and everyone who took part in the American edition of it goes to hell.

Kung Fu Hustle

I was with some friend earlier in the night and we drove to Apple Bees by going on the 2nd ring road. Since I was driving I decided to bust out Connie and do some war driving. I didn’t find anything on that road expect RoRo.

I found RoRo on the traffic light between Qadsia and Yarmouk Mansouriya. I didn’t have time to connect to it since the light turned green. Later when we reached the 2nd Ring and Istiqlal Highway I found RoRo again and with a very strong signal. So I connected and found it was a computer to computer connection. It just confused me a signal that strong came was from Qadsia to Dasman. I think it could have been another laptop or even a PDA that was in the car next to me. I am going to be going on that road again later to see if I can find it.

I saw the movie Gacy about the serial killer John Wayne Gacy. This movie is indie and shows it in the filming. I think it was a intentional to make it feel that it was set in the 70s.

Basically the movie gives a different view of Gacy showing his life and the events that led to his capture. The movie wasn’t slow, hospital and not boring it was just eh. It was missing something the actors played their roles very well especially Mark Holton as Gacy. I think the direction and maybe the script needed some work. There was no suspense or anticipation. I really didn’t care either way if he killed anyone else or that he was going to get captured.

I think the movie’s focus was how teenage boys who get beaten by their dad or can’t communicate with their parents either become gay or serial killers. Cause the first scene was a teenage Gacy getting beaten up by his father on a fishing trip,. Then later in the movie you see him having heart to heart talks with teenage boys telling them to talk with their dads and that their parents love them and during these scenes you actually see him some what emotional.

So if you are into serial killers watch it, if you aren’t dont bother its not worth it.

MSNBC have an article
How to get that perfect shave. Telling people the way to shave. It was pretty ok, sickness
nothign new or amsuing, but what got to me is how much people in America pay for a barber shave is from $50-$100. Thats insane!

I myself only shave at the barbers, I dont have a shaving kit at home, (which is why sometimes I have a good growth of hair cause I dont have time to go get a shave) and just pay from 500fils to 1Kd.

I know of other barbers that will give you the full treatment of massage, hair removal from ears and cheak bones and even a facail scrub and all for 5kd.

Americans must have forgotten how to pamper themselves and just allowed themselves to get ripped of when they do.

Talking to Mark on MSN and he mentioned that I should rent a movie:

Mark says:
rent the movie home alone
Nibaq says:
rent a movie?
Mark says:
yeah forgot

I remember back in the 80s going to Video Club in Salmiya and roaming around their shelves and shelves of videos looking for something to rent, capsule picking out movies by name, or just trying to finish a whole shelf. Even in the US going to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video, or one of the indie ones just roaming the rows looking for a movie. It was just an experience on its own roaming and hoping you can think of a movie to rent then hoping that it is still there.

In Kuwait now we just go to Hawalli look at books, pick out a movie, question the guy on it’s quality, have him swear that it is perfect copy and no problems, wait 10 minutes for them to bring it, take it home and see that its not perfect like movie stopping halfway through, or its a cam job and not a DVD copy. Then saying damn that guy and swearing never to buy from him again and going to return the movie. Then just saying screw it and do something else.

Sadly that doesn’t sound as entertaining. I think the rental business will do good in Kuwait, have a flat rate payment. Like NetFlix and even home delivery like Kozmo used to do. People can sit at home get online order a movie maybe have some cross promotional thing with fast food places for special deals. Within 15 minutes you have the movie, and the food you ordered.

Then you return it when you feel like it, but like NetFlix your only allowed 3 at a time. The movie was perfect, you got food and didn’t leave your house to deal with Hawalli or the bad copies you might get.

I think it would be a very viable business. The only hitch that I would see is the censorship and stuff. I am sure there can be work arounds with that by having 18 and up policy.

Update
One other thing that comes to mind is that in Hawalli you never find classic movies, only recent ones. So with the rental shop you can have an archive of movies and serve a wide variety of tastes.

Just last week MTC spent $3.32 billion on its Africa expansion and it had people in diwaniyas and family lunches going “wtf”. Saying how MTC revenue in Kuwait doesn’t even equal all those networks in Africa generate. I tell you know whatI told them then, contagion give them 5 years and Kuwait won’t even equal 10% of the Africa revenue.

You see Africa is growing like crazy, and people dont notice it cause of its size and the many litter wars that occur there. One area that it will grow in is communication. Since they dont have wires there, the Belgiums and other Europeans sucked all the copper out of there and just left them with their drums.

So now those drums are 3G+ wireless networks. Africa will have one of the fastest and more powerful networks in the world. They are going to start fresh and go with what is the latest tech. Also with this tech they are going to have some pretty damn cool phones and I can’t wait to see what they are going to create with them.

You know how in Kuwait you have a street with all the phone stores, anabolics or a street with kitchen tiles, men’s health or textiles etc . And just scratch your head an wonder why dont they seperate from each other and avoid the competition.

Well what they are doing is actually a documented economic law called Hotelling’s law. The best part of this law is that with all these shops adn competition the consumer loses because it “results in less variety for the consumer”.

So something to think about when you go buy a new phone, car or anything else in Kuwait. It made be cheaper but your choices are less.

I just wanted to mention that Kung Fu Hustle is the greatest action movie I have seen.

I picked it up in Thailand cause of name alone, sale then when I got back to hotel and saw it was by Stephen Chow I knew I had something good but once I watched it I changed my mind It was great!

In simple terms its the movie Taratinto wishes he could make. It had suspense, dramacomedy and a fight scenes to die for.

Rent a Movie?

I really have a problem with government when it comes to me giving them money. They make it so damn hard and impossible that you just want to say screw it and let them suffer. Either they do not have a KNet machine, sales or only take cash in 10kd notes or that the treasury is closed and have to come back tomorrow, or the guy working looks at the papers work and doesn’t want to deal with it today so tells me come tomorrow.

In our company I always say if the customer want to give you money, you do what ever it takes to get it. Open late, go for it! He doesn’t have a car, we go pick it up. As a business making it difficult or hard to pay us makes the customer say screw it and just forget about paying then we have to go chase them down for it.

One company that is open for any time of payments in Kuwait is MTC. They will take money from anyone. They dont ask if its your phone, or someone else’s, if you are going to give them money to pay for a bill they will do it with a smile and give you a receipt. Why waste time asking for ID or verification? You have someone walking in ready to pay 300kd for a bill, you are not going to say”no”.

The Kuwaiti government needs to put KNet in all their treasuries, it will make life so much easier for us and the workers, no more counting the money or checking if its fake or not and paying for security service to come pick it up. Maybe thats next in our “e-Government” system thats always getting delayed.

Wired has 2 articles about the movie business in Hollywood and the digital future. One is about Mark Cuban and how he is moving his movie theaters to digital distrubtion system. The other is about Robert Rodriguez filming his movies in all digital format.

Cuban is taking down the movie companies from the front door by really removing them and building his own empire. He doesn’t have to deal with their legacy or control system and wants to create something new and easy and of course to make money. He wants to make it easy to show digital movies and really no deal with the red tape or fears that the Hollywood studios have.

Rodriguez on the other hand is taking Hollywood from the backdoor, buy viagra by not following tradition in being part of the Director Guild (he quit because they wouldn’t let him have co-director with Frank Miller in Sin City), also by not hiring union workers. Also he is one of the few directors to work in all digital foramt, cutting his costs and productions time, which also leeds to more money.

I think now with the digital formats, and more and more scenes being filmed in sound rooms we are going to see less stuff happening in California. Texas and the mid west seems like the new ground for the new film revolution. Land is cheap, creativity is there and they aren’t going to play by the normal rules.

Women Who Rock

My pictures from national day weekend

My pictures from national day weekend

I got this SMS forward about women’s rights in Kuwait.

Day Of Solidarity. Monday, look 8am, the seaside in front of Parliament. Stand up for women’s rights. Join everyone and wear blue. Forward please.

I am all for women’s rights and that they deserve the vote, no questions. Yet I have one problem with this thing, 8Am? You want people to go to Kuwait City at 8am and try to find parking in that area? Don’t they know how bad traffic is around that time, or even that people have jobs, kids and other things they need to do?

If your going to have a protest make sure the time is right where you can get the most amount of people without them having a legitimate excuse for not being there. A majority of protests occur around or past noon. One recent example is the Lebanese protest against Syria was around 1pm. I don’t even remember Islamic groups having protest before noon.

If the organizers of this really want a turn out have it at a better time. Or to give it a real impact have a silent 24hour vigil in front of the Parliament. That would guarantee good press coverage and show the dedication of the people who want women rights to happen.

I got the Donnas and Le Tigre in my car now and it inspired me to make a mix CD with female rockers.

Here is some of the artists/songs I am thinking of:
Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit
Janis Joplin – Take Another Piece of my Heart
Tina Turner
Donnas
Le Tigre
The Go Gos
Aretha Franklin
Sheryl Crow
Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks!)
Cyndia Lauper – Girls just want to have fun
Heart – Barracuda

Think I will start with Aretha – Respect. Then after that its all confusion. I think it would be best to pick out songs first and then work them to some type of narrative. Already contemplating Jefferson Starship one, neurosurgeon
dont think it will go with much of anything.

Am I missing anyone that I should have or even a song that I need to have?

One of my biggest fascinations is home appliances. I just love them. I used to love going to Best Buy and Lowes and roam around that section seeing their washing machines, Sildenafil
stoves and stuff. Just the technology that goes in to them and how advanced they are getting is impressive.

So seeing this frdige that keeps food hot is great. It has a preset timer to cool the food after a certain time but wonder if it can do the opposite by being cold then when its time heat the food so its nice and warm cause that would be more practical.
Long day and tired to write much of a post so will cliff note it.

  • Morning didn’t want to wake up
  • Work
  • Free trade zone is going to me something amazing once they get rid of the port.
  • Distiguished Gentleman is one of Eddie Murphy’s best roles.
  • The Machinist good movies that makes you go wtf, hemorrhoids diagnosis and Christian Bale is still a sexy mofo even at 120lbs.
  • Those old houses by Casper and Gambini are a hidden treasure
  • The Museum of Modern Art – Kuwait is also a hidden treasure in terms of a building and their small collection.
  • Blogger Meetup small this time, but good conversation about Kuwait and felt like a diwaniya.
  • Chinese House or something sucked cause they screwed up my order and didn’t give me utensils.
  • The stationary shop kitty corner to it is open till midnight.
  • And I love it when a team comes together and kicks ass.

Uncle Oscar

SheWrites mentions the Oscars and looking at the list of winners and even the nominees I am happy to say that the only movie I watched was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which is a great movie.

I really haven’t had time to watch movies lately it just takes too much time and I really think there is nothing good to watch. Seems books and reading and just doing other random stuff occupies most of my time.

More TV

They are slowing getting rid of those old building down in Kuwait city. This is a mixed thing. Its good to get rid of those decaying buildings and bad cause they been there so long we kinda got used to them.

So I went there and took pan pictures of it from behind and some from infront. So that there be some history of it.

The Location is behind Jashalmall across the street from Muthana Complex or N 29 21’53” E 47 57’52”.

Earlier tonight my dad took me to those new shop that opened in Shuwaik near Ikea and stuff. It is right next to, decease or part of Homes R Us. The place is called Daiso, help it sells everything Japanese, and for only 500fil.

And I mean everything for 500fils. They have some cool stuff there, from the kitchen to the office, even for outdoors. I didn’t venture to the womens section but I did see some make up stuff.

If you are into Japanese stuff, go check it out, and if your into cheap stuff (500fils) go check it out, you will find something that you want or dont want but will get just cause of the price.

I really suggest there stationary section and the kitcen section, those were cool things. Also you find those random stuff that only Japan makes and you go “what the hell is this?” Cause everything on the packaging is in Japanese.

We all enjoyed MBC2 choice of movies and sitcoms, ampoule and now with OneTV we get double the pleasure, pestilence but now MBC not to be out down has gone and made MBC2 an all movie channel, viagra dosage and MBC4 a sitcom channel.

What does this mean? More TV that I will not watch. I myself enjoyed One at first but got annoyed when they were censoring shows by getting rid of questionable scenes and beeping out swear words. They have done this with Devil’s Advocate and even Everybody Loves Raymond. MBC from what I seen has not done this and been showing shows in their original format. But like I said I dont watch much TV.

Yet with all this free stuff I think we will still have Orbit and Showtime at home. I like the ability to watch movies and shows uncut and uncensored. I am old enough to make my own choices.
