Clapton is God

After waiting having a tough and long labour process involving waiting and staring at watches that stopped working I finally got her. She weight just over 4.6lbs and is 15″. I have named her Connie (short for Conduit).

Ah the joy she brings me in holding her. I know some other will be getting same ones soon. I hope they bring as much and more joy.

All I need now is a Hello Kitty stick to put on her.

Yesterday I participated in the DILO project. What it entails is me taking pictures of day.

My focus on DILO day is to get my PowerBook. They kept it at customs at the airport so had to go in and free her. The day was prety much my basic day in Kuwait. Work during the day, advice some family time during the afternoon then friends at night for cards.

With Mothers day being yesterday and hearing this story on the radio :phthisiatrician ,2-10-1462_1679126, health 00.html”>Blind sons get mom’s corneas. The rest of the story for the title is the mother killed herself in order for the donation to happen. By doing that the doctors were able to take her 2 corneas and place 1 each for her 2 blind sons.

That just gives me chills. They can talk about a the fury and rage of a women scorned, but they cant come up with enough words to describe their love.

Its great having a new laptop. There is soo much freedom with this one, cheap my last one really hit EOL I had to keep it plugged in to a power supply at all times cause the battery died, the 12″ screen was limiting, not including the hard disk space of 0 and just the bloat. I could have easily fixed most of those problem with a good format and reinstall but it wasn’t worth it for what I was doing with it.

Connie is just blowing me away with its abilities and I still haven’t used 1/2 of them yet. Slowly doing more stuff here and there. My main issue is the screen and mouse. Zoe (my old iBook short for Zealot) was 12″ and since it turned to desktop of with the iCurve and using a regular mouse for it moving around the screen was easy. With Connie its never ends I have it on fastest and just have to keep moving my finger to get to one end to another. The screen is just huge and the screen size I am using is 1240 compared to 1024 on Zoe. But I LOVE it I get to see more on the screen just annoying making that window active.

Lately I been downloading stuff and messing with the BSD Darwin core, added MySQL and set up PHP so I can install web apps and mess with them before I put them online. Its really fun.

I also downloaded DosBox which is a DOS Emu so I can run some old games like X-Com Enemy Unkown, Transport Tycoon, Master of Orion and Master of Magic. As you can see my gaming days stopped around 1997. Games back then had more style in terms of thinking and planning, the ones now are just cut and slash without any real substance. I haven’t seen any game lately that I want to get. Though I have sworn when Duke Nukem Forever comes out I will get a PC with the spec to play it.

Also with Connie I am spending more time with the family kinda. Before I would go to my room and hide there on the computer. Now I spend time in the family room. We got wireless and also 2 other laptops that my parents use. So we sit around on our computers talk and watch tv. Some my say that is anti social since we are doing our own thing, but I feel its good. Sometimes you dont have to talk to people your close to, you just want to be around them. Gives you a sense of security and reassurance.

I still need to get a bag for Connie. Going to get this Timbuk2 one that is a laptop tote or something. Its a case with handles on top. This way I can carry it seperate from my messenger bag or have it placed inside it.

Tiredness time for sleep.

I work in Shuwaik, unhealthy site so the roads here suck, here
and people who drive on them suck even more. So just a couple minutes ago I snapped. I am driving on the right side of the road (cause we live in Kuwait not England or Japan) to my work. And this guy is coming straight at me. So I stop and start honking. Then he squeezes to the right of me and starts passing. I honk more roll down my window and shout at him. Explaining him in Kuwait that the right side of the road is for traffic going my direction, he smiles and says he is sorry and stuff, I keep shouting at him. That they are traffic laws and such. He smiles and nods apologizes and moves and then gets on the his right side of the road.

I am not going to take these stupid infractions anymore as a public citizen I am going to enforce the broken window system.

If the first broken window in a building is not repaired, the people who like breaking windows will assume that no one cares about the building and more windows will be broken. Soon the building will have no windows. (Wilson and Kelling, 1982).

Its these small minor infractions that are causing accidents and even bigger infractions. Our streets have thrown away logic and order and disorder now has become the norm. We shrug when we someone runs a red light, or cause they missed and exit and reverse on the main road back to it. Even when they drive on the emergency lane during rush hour.

These things need to stop, and the only way is if we start getting angry. So honk when we seen stupid infractions and make sure the person knows they did something wrong.

I just got home from work. I was in Kuwait city so had to take the Istiqlal Road. Traffic sucked up I didn’t care cause on VOA they were playing the Classic Rock Show.

Hold on having a brain spasm. Kadafi is on TV talking about I have no idea what, prescription something about a cow in the middle of the road and its the day of judgement and the cow is still on the middle of the road. I think he is drunk or something cause he is just babbling.

Anyway so the Classic Rock Show had Eric Clapton as their focus. It was amazing they played songs that I know and love as well as songs I forgot or never heard. It was pure bliss for my drive home. I didn’t care how bad traffic was, adiposity or that it was stop and go. The music choice was great, hospital the announcer was simple, exciting and kept his banter short and to the point between songs. It made my 25 minute stuggle home pure bliss.

Now compare this to 99.7 where they are playing the same crappy song over and over, and their announcers banater is annoying and repetive and not really saying anything. True, that Vicky is better than the others on 99.7 but its no where close to where it needs to be. I really hope for more radio stations in Kuwait and with these new stations I am sure traffic and road rage will go down.

We are Not Going to Take it!

After waiting having a tough and long labour process involving waiting and staring at watches that stopped working I finally got her. She weight just over 4.6lbs and is 15″. I have named her Connie (short for Conduit).

The Female Imam

I saw parts of this early this morning, physiotherapist troche medstore hearing a woman doing the prayer call on TV and ignored it and went to work. Then when driving to work in the afternoon VOA had a thing on it and when they said that “a female was leading the Friday prayer”. After hearing that I felt something icky in my throat.

Its not that I have anything against them learning the Koran or even teaching it. Most if not all of my teachers for Islam have been women. They are the ones that taught me that its a mans responsibility to lead the prayers including being Imam on the Friday prayer. I even recall one time during Ramadan when I went to pray the Magreb. I put my prayer mat just behind one of my aunt’s as she was praying and prayed. After I finished praying I got scolded by her for praying behind a woman. For me it was praying at an empty spot, to her it was sacrilege.

I am all for womens rights, and that they should have equality under the law and be able to voice their opinion. There is an essay on the matter: What Would the Prophet Do? The Islamic Basis for Female-Led Prayer By Nevin Reda. Where she lists objects and evidence for allowing women being Imam of prayer and sadly her evidence sucks. She just list why women should be leaders and that their should be fairness between the sexes in birth and death. And I agree that a woman can be a leader and have authority and power one great and prime example is Khadeeja, Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) wife. She was a business owner and a very powerful and rich merchant and first women to convert to Islam, but she wasn’t leading the prayer.

Also her the objections she listed with her opinions against them are bland and dont have much refute. They dont offer me enough evidence for to even think about agreeing with her.

Yet where she is coming from is a good place. Her aim for this is to let women get the powers they deserve under Islam to be leaders, professionals in the work place, society and their home. This is what we should strive for and aim for. But please dont twist religion like the extremists to help in your own personal agenda.

There are not more archives for this blog, troche its now simply content. It has been bothering me for a long time the whole concept of archives. I just dont like that feeling of the word, to me it means old buried, and forgotten. The internet has changed our view of information and the ability to access it via search engines, socail bookmarks etc. Nothing is forgotten or put a away it is always there ready to be accessed.

This is mostly steming on how I am defining the world.

I see the world in 3 defined groups: content, resources, and rules.

Basically resources is the place which holds/creates/provides the content based rules provided.

Yesterday I think was the longest day for me, disorder I was up early so I can drive to Kuwait City to get my insurance papers so they can start fixing my car and get my rental replacement. Traffic sucked on Istaqlal St. so I decided to take the beach road. That road was nice no traffic it was moving smooth, cialis 40mg the only problem is the traffic lights and the twists and turns, I am sure it took the same time if I stuck to the regular road, but it was a nice day, and I much prefer taking a longer road thats moving than a shorter one that is stop and go.

Got my insurance when I got a call from work, that I need to be in the office to go with some people to some meetings. I had made other work plans that day, but when duty calls. Met the people and started we went to our meetings.

How can I say waste of time in the simpleness sense? The government sucks! These meetings were planned the person who came here has 2 days to hear your problems and fix them! You had faxes, phone calls, you demanded that this person come to meet with you. Then you have to drop everything and leave us to move from office office trying to find someone who is willing to take responsibility for just meeting and talking with us. Then when you have a computer that is broken, and not working its not our fault or our problem. We provided you with a machine and gave you a list of specifications that the computer should have. Then because you can’t fix it, (it just needed a windows reinstall) I have to get you a new computer.

I want that type of deal when I buy a car. Even though I own it and picked it out, I want the dealer to come to my house everyday to clean it, take it for an oil change and if it breaks down due to my negligence the dealer should replace it for me. I swear the government in Kuwait has forgotten that they serve the people and not the other way around. Seriously I really believe that why things like water and electricity are still working is that companies that deal with the government are making sure things are maintained and in order so they still get the purchase order later. If it wasn’t for business bending backwards we’d be having chaos.

So once that waste of time was done, we went to have lunch. That was peaceful as Souq Sharq. Just sitting outside and looking at the clouds and the Kuwait sky line. I really just zoned out. I stopped listening to the conversation in the table and just was in my own little world. It was very peaceful.

After our long lunch, I had to get back to work and finish the computer setup for the government as well as finally drop my insurance papers at the garage. That luckily went smooth, they had all the spare parts and made a time card for my car. I should have it back by the 26/27th.

I figured now just go look at the computer, install the software and go get my rental car. We luckily we had some technicians in that day for our accounting software who were going to do it for me and I just needed to make sure it worked and was ready for tomorrow. Well that didn’t happen the technicians couldn’t do it,for some reason or other. So I started doing it. I spent from 5-7 ripping computers apart. We had 3 spare ones from my accounting upgrade and I just ripped them apart. I created a Frankenstein computer. There were all these little problems, the CD Rom wasn’t working, or the hard drive was SCSI or the power supply. When I thought I created the complete box the computer wouldn’t turn on. There was power then it just died. I was SO pissed spent all this time and nothing was going right.

The accountant seeing my plight then told me I could take the sales computer downstairs. It already had XP on it and just needed me to remove the accounting software. Phew he was a life save. I ran out started removing software and tweaking it, doing defrags and such. It was great and ready to go, I figured best thing to do is copy the driver information like .cabs and stuff to the hard disk in case we needed them. I started the copying and headed back to my office.

I dont know what happened or who did it, but someone rebooted the computer and with the windows install CD inside the install software started. I dont know who this idiot was but he just kept hitting enter, didn’t bother reading that it was going to FORMAT and INSTALL windows again. Cause at 7:30 I got a call from the accountant as he was leaving that the computer was copying files. I thought it was done and ran down to see it was in the process of installing Windows. So basically I didn’t leave work till 9pm

Wasn’t home yet, I was tired and just out of it, but I couldn’t go home. My friend was leaving the next day for a long business trip so had to see him before he left.

So now its 8:45 the people were supposed to meet with me here at 8:15-8:30 to finish our meetings EARLY. I been here since 8:00 to make sure traffic doesn’t make me late. I may a slacker at times but when I tell someone I will be there at a time I will be there.

I am tired and angry and just need to finish my work without people wasting my time.

Double Tales

Got back from the protest around 30 minutes ago and already uploading the pictures. Will offer link to the photoset once its done.
Kuwaiti Women Solidarity Protest. These aren’t my pictures my friend was using my digital mine will be up in a couple days (slide film)

It was a great protest I regret leaving now but I needed to get back to work. My Mom is now at the Parliament for the meeting so thats great.

They were lots of young faces there and very excited to be part of the movement. One thing that got to me was a lot of them were shouting slogans in English and Arabic. You can tell this was a very multicultural crowd and wanting change. I saw friends and family there which was great.

I didn’t hold any poster cause I was so busy running around taking pictures. I was wearing blue and believe that by being there and documenting it for people is good for the cause.

I have more pictures from my regular film cameras, cialis sale but they are slide and will take about a day to develop and stuff, but once I get them rest assured they will be on line as well.

Saw this on SaudiJeans about memorizing telephone numbers. It strengthens my earlier post on the future of domain names because of IDN and IPV6.

People have their own way of remembering numbers on their address book via nicknames or strange characters in the contacts info, cheap so why can’t we do that with domain names.

Like my blog for example. Its officially www.kuwaitblogs.com/users/nibaq/
But someone could have it in their personal DNS as nibaqsblogs.com or why even use .com and just have it as saviormachine.blog, anesthetist or something thats tagged based like nibaq.blogs.kuwait.

Thats another idea, a tag based dns system that is linked to your del.icio.us bookmarks.

I think ICANN will be dead in less than 2 years after the release of IPV6.

So saw some options that seem better and more practical than the Timbuk2 and also read some sites complaining that the original owners of the company left and most of the manufacturing is in China so its not the same quality that was before.

And luckily found some pretty amazing messenger bag companies.

I like this company ReLoad I think I will be getting a bag from these guys the prices are reasonable and really look great. I am eying their Civilian model. It is well built has good pockets and straps, buy more about then there is the extra options that I can add to it. Which I really want and need. I also kind of torn for the Deluxe model it just looks rugged, but I think it too big for what I need.

For just size wise I am liking Cocotte. It is Canadian company from Montreal and really have a nice bag called Alfredo the dimensions of this bag are kinda of weird seems to narrow for my liking, but pictures of the way it open up to show off that a large size, and seems very tempting. Sadly there is no price available on their website or how to order it except from retail shops in Montreal.

Here is a pretty cool Hungarian company called Bagaboo they also offer customization, yet their bag sizes I think are a bit to big. Their smallest is 21″ wide. I am looking for a bag that is around 16″-19″ wide.

One company that is meeting my size requirements is Bailey Works these guys have this really great bag called 40 1K its a toned down version of their Courier 253 bag yet they are no pictures of what the bag looks inside, in terms of zippers and pockets. Price wise they are great.

Now for the hard core bag. Pac Designs make one mean bag, their slogan is “Built for Abuse, Engineered for Riding”. These guys don’t mess around at all and I am in love with their Deluxe bag. This thing is a menace has everything in terms of pockets and zippers but short in my width requirements but I can deal with that. It also has a pretty tough price around it but you get what you pay for. If I do go for these guys I most likely will get their simpler one calledStreet Scene. It has less options but still built to their standards and I dont think I would really use all those biking options.

Push the Envelope with their Metro bag it is the right size and look how practical it is with the pockets and easily it gets filled up.

What do you guys think? Which bag makes you drool the most?

Kuwaiti Women Solidarity Protest

Oh and people who uploaded to Flickr please tag your pictures with kwsp050307 so we can share and find them easier.
With talk in the comments and posts of MsBaker and in Expat and in many othersabout why weren’t there more people and especially women at the protest on Monday. I have my own thoughts on this matter.

First off people had other responsibilities being there at 8 is tough for people who have work and other stuff they need to do. I knew a good number of people who I thought would be the first ones there, hygiene capsule but didn’t show up due to them having to go to work or some other prior commitments.

I also put blame to the SMS that was sent around, visit this site practitioner it didn’t give us any agenda for the protest. It just said be there at 8. It wasn’t till the next day that I learned there was going to be a Parliament meeting that day. Then there was the question of what was going to happen when I got there. I had no idea that we were going to try to get in to the meeting, purchase and protest right at the door once the MPs started to arrive. This information slowly tickled down to me at the protest.

Also we didn’t have any idea when it was going to end. I think if more people had some idea for set hours they would have ditched work for 2 hours protested and gone back to wok without need to take a full day off and just reorganized their work schedule for that day.

One thing I noticed was there wasn’t many women in their 30-40s at the protest. It was all under 30 mostly and especially under 20 from what I saw. I overhead a conversation from 2 women in their 30-40s and they were there in 1996 for the last protest. They were excited for the turn out and I could tell from their voice that they dont feel this is their fight anymore. They let that part of them go and focusing on their careers and lives now.

So whats the way to get the women their rights and votes?

Start from the ground up, get those young girls who were there to get organized and united. These are the ones that should have the right to vote when they turn 21. They need to start lobbying hard to the MPs, getting petitions signed from those MPs’ voters demanding for that right.

Have planned events, to talk about the situation and really bring it out in the open. I dont think there has been a debate between the pro and anti crowds. I think that would be a great thing. Also give protests a good week notice so people can arrange their schedule. I really like Jewaira’s idea of getting a bus its a good way to gather mass crowds easily and quickly. One recent example is that Hizbollah protest in Lebanon all those people you would think they were from Lebanon but really just bussed in from Syria.

Today was spent running around getting my insurance and car thing setup so they can start work on it and fix it. Its going to take forever by the looks of it. I got the paperwork from the garage and then was on my way to the insurance company in Kuwait City so open a file with them when I got an sms asking for my blood type.

So I dropped what I Was doing and headed to the blood bank to donate. The blood bank hasn’t changed I think since last time I was there on a school trip. They really let that place go. What annoyed me the most was the watches there. They all had the wrong time, search I asked a nurse why is that. She said they been broken for 2 years. How the hell can you live with a broken watch in your office for 2 years? Talk about not caring about your work envoirnment.

Giving blood was easy, more about it was really simple I was given a questionaire in Arabic and I got really confused when they were giving the disease names translated to Arabic. They should have put them in parenthese in English so people could make sense from them. One question that was funny if I spent during 1980-1996 time that equaled or more than 3 months in England. I dont know of any Kuwaiti that didn’t spend time during that period that equaled ore more than 3 years. Everyone was in England back then. I always heard stories back in the 80s how this one kid used to go there every week to give blood cause they would give you juice and 20kd, and he saved up all those 20kds to buy a bike. Loves those urban legends.

I will defienetaly do it again in 3 months. I keep hearing about how bad blood shortages get and blood donated only lasts for a month before they have to throw it away and there is always people needing it. I can tell you its a really simple and takes no more than 30 minutes to do and you will be saving someones life

Here is a link to picture of the needle going in, and one with the blood pumping.

I got my insurance stuff done, now its all between teh garage and them to discuss it. I will return to insurance guys on Sunday to see about my rental car til my car gets fixed. It will be a week then since the accident and still my car hasn’t been touched. It is really disheartening to know I will be waiting, I miss her.

I saw the new Lexus GS yesterday when going home and had to do a double take when I saw it. It just looks so impressive and wow. Since I am still running around with fixing my car I got a change to see it atAl-Sayer and even closer its impressive the way the curves are, cialis and its so roomy inside. I only got to see the 300 model and the rims need to be replaced for it to give it that extra uNF, sovaldi sale but they said the 430 model (damn thats fast) has really better rims. In my opinion stock rims only look good on German cars.

I got the paperwork from the garage and then was on my way to the insurance company in Kuwait City so open a file with them when I got an sms asking for my blood type.

More Pics from Monday

I am up. Dont recall ever getting up this early in a long time…
I am up. Dont recall ever getting up this early in a long time…
